Try Moving Meditation

Moving Meditations

If you were to observe my son watching TV, in 30 minutes you would likely see him in 30+ positions.  Everything from the traditional sitting on his bum to standing on his head.  The idea of him sitting quietly to meditate is laughable, and likely not even possible.

If you find yourself in my son’s boat, don’t discount meditation too quickly.  It is possible to meditate while moving.

Walking meditations are practiced all over the world.  The key is to relax and focus your intention on your walking.  Take your time, gather in all the surrounding details, be in that particular moment.  Don’t worry about where you are going, just walk.

Perhaps you love to dance.  Give dancing meditation a try.

Have an interest in martial arts? Tai Chi‘s slow grounded movements allow you to relax, destress, and focus.

Yoga, cooking, cleaning, running, and any every day task can be a form of meditation when done mindfully.

There are a myriad of ways to meditate without sitting still.  If you are a fidget-butt, meditation is possible.  The key is to remember that meditation is not about our posture, but our focus.

Move if you need to move, just move with intention.
